This e-book is a compilation of 20 essays from people of different races, living in different places around the world, speaking to their thoughts about race and nationality.
These are intimate stories of people's life experiences in relation to their races and nationalities of birth. Some of the stories are raw but I never felt depressed by the anecdotes. In fact, I read the entire book in one sitting.
One story in particular touched me. "Doris", a young mother from Guyana, related her heart-wrenching experience of watching her child struggle with the negative effects of having dark skin. Though she and I have very different backgrounds, as a mother I could put myself in her place and feel her sense of powerlessness to shield her daughter from these experiences.
Given recent flareups in racial tension in the United States, my own homeland, I thought this book was timely. The stories contained are exactly what we need to help us deepen our empathy toward each other. I'm not sure how to deliver this kind of material to the very people who need to hear it most. I will leave that challenge up to the editor.
Some of the authors included a 14-year-old precocious and idealistic Asian-American boy, a European woman who was virtually unaware of discrimination until she entered a biracial marriage, and a driven and hope-filled young black American man.
If I had to offer a critique of the book, I'd say the majority of contributors were young adults. I would have liked to hear from a larger range of ages. I think including essays from older people would add a depth and certain wisdom.
Also, the author protected the writers' identities by giving each a pseudonym. The given names were primarily English. I would've liked to see names given that were more true to the person's country of origin.

I was kind of surprised that enjoyed reading about what other races though. What didn't surprise me was the essays done by some white people especially Alexander from Russia, who I think needs to read the history of other races before claiming white history is more supreme than other races.
I think this book was incredibly insightful and a refreshing take on race relations on the international stage. I experienced a range of emotions and thoughts while reading the various essays in this book.
On one hand I believe that some of the stories were in line with my own personal experiences and allowed me to analyze those feelings from a different perspective. On the other hand, reading about the experiences and thoughts of people of other races and cultural background also made me realize that in many ways as much as we are different, we as humans are very much the same.
Excellent read from start to finish. The author Guensie Grecy certainly produced a gem with this one. I look forward to future works from this author and would highly recommend this book to others looking to engage in an insightful discussion on race and culture.
