This is the story of a man and his people. In an age when persecution over religious differences was the norm in Western Europe, he gave the Jews of Europe safe haven and freedom to practice their religion. In an age when cruelty rather than kindness was common practice, he instituted laws for the protection of women and serfs. In a country where law itself was what the local strongman decreed, he brought the light of learning and hope. Warning This book is more than just a time machine. Not only will it take you back seven centuries; while there, you will learn honor, valor, loyalty, despair and enduring love. You will learn to respect the past. You may also find hope for the future.

Reign of LightKostreva's well researched tale of the historically real life of a young Polish prince, Casimir III, who as king, became `the Great.' He united Poland in its 14th century youth, but he was torn between his political marriage and his politically incorrect love for another. That tragedy and the late medieval setting reminded me of my favorite adolescent novel, Ivanhoe, with a similar `incorrect' love. I love historical novels because they bring alive the people and events that shape today's world. Reign of Light is a must for understanding Poland today, and a joy to read.Product details

Reign of Light A H Kostreva 9781618632845 Books Reviews
This novel brings to our attention the relatively unknown history of an important Eastern European ally.In early 14th century Poland a young monarch arose who actually put into practice the ideas of democracy and religious freedom. The author has skillfully depicted the lives of the warring aristocracy & peasants affected by changes brought by Casimir the Great. A great story!
